Analisse McLain
Raising the Bar
“There’s something special about Benton. The people here make it an amazing place to grow up.”
From recordbreaking athlete to aspiring teacher, Analisse McLain exemplifies dedication, resilience, and community spirit.
Analisse McLain, a 2024 graduate of Benton Grade School and pole vaulter extraordinaire, has already achieved remarkable feats both on and off the track. As she prepares to transition to high school, her story serves as an inspiration to her community and beyond.
Analisse’s journey began early, influenced by her family’s deep roots in athletics. With two older sisters who excelled in track and a brother currently making his mark in high school sports, Analisse was naturally drawn to the track. Her dedication paid off when she set a new state record in pole vaulting, clearing an impressive 9 feet 8 inches. This accomplishment not only secured her a state championship but also broke the school’s longstanding record.
Reflecting on her athletic achievements, Analisse shared, “I’ve grown up running; it’s always been a part of my life. My siblings and I have spent countless hours at the track, and their success has been a great motivator for me.” Her mother, Deedra McLain, a family physician and Benton alumnus, attributes Analisse’s success to her unwavering discipline and commitment.
In addition to her prowess in track and field, Analisse has a passion for gymnastics and volleyball. Although she recently stopped participating in competitive gymnastics, her experience as a gymnast helped her develop the strength, discipline, and agility needed for pole vaulting. Volleyball, on the other hand, remains a beloved team sport for Analisse. “I love the camaraderie and support we share as a team. It keeps me positive throughout my day,” she said.
Analisse’s dedication extends beyond athletics. She excels academically, maintaining mostly straight A’s and recently discovering a love for reading. She and her friend Layla have been avidly exploring the works of Colleen Hoover and other authors. Analisse’s mother notes that her daughter’s newfound passion for reading is a recent development, encouraged by the supportive environment at Benton Grade School.
One of Analisse’s most cherished memories from grade school is her second-grade teacher, Miss Keele, who made learning enjoyable and fostered a love for education. Inspired by her positive experiences, Analisse dreams of one day becoming a teacher. “I’ve always loved kids and teaching, whether it’s in school or sports. Teachers like Miss Keele have shown me the impact a great teacher can have, and I want to do the same for others,” she explained.
When asked about the key to her success, Analisse credited her mother and her supportive friends. “My mom has always been there for me, through every challenge and triumph. She’s my biggest supporter,” she said. Deedra, who balanced a demanding career with raising four children, emphasized the importance of setting an example through hard work and commitment to one’s goals.
Analisse’s story is not just one of personal achievement but also a testament to the strength and spirit of the Benton community. Raised in a town where people rally around each other in times of need and celebrate each other’s successes, Analisse embodies the values of support and resilience. “There’s something special about Benton. The people here make it an amazing place to grow up,” she reflected.
As Analisse prepares to enter high school, her future is filled with possibilities. While she is open to exploring various paths, her heart remains set on teaching and continuing her athletic endeavors. Her advice to her younger self and others is simple yet profound: “Whatever you’re going through, it will get better. Persevere.”
In a final reflection, Analisse shared a glimpse of her empathetic nature. If given a magic wand, she would use it to help others, demonstrating her desire to share her good fortune and uplift those around her.
Analisse McLain’s story is one of hope, hard work, and community. As she continues to break records and inspire those around her, she represents the best of what Benton Grade School and the greater community have to offer. Her journey is just beginning, and with her determination and spirit, there is no doubt she will achieve great things.
Additionally, and something she was quite clear about, Analisse’s success can be attributed to the support and guidance of her coach, Matt Lasley. There is an extraordinary connection between athlete and coach; Lasley’s daughter, Julia, previously held the junior high state record for pole vaulting. His mentorship has been instrumental in Analisse’s development, unselfishly showcasing the importance of community and shared success in Benton.
With her remarkable achievements and the unwavering support of her family and community, Analisse McLain is a true rising star of Benton, poised to make a significant impact in her future endeavors.
